Vienna officials have decided to give away fridge thermometers to help citizens cool their food properly as Austria is gripped by a massive heatwave.
Vienna’s MA 38 office said today (Tues) residents can call up +43 1 400 080 90 to order a thermometer for their refrigerators for free from today.
The food and consumer affairs department stressed the heat meant an increasing risk of moulding food due to inadequate temperatures in freezers.
It said the thermometers should help citizens to store their food in fridges at temperatures lower than eight degrees centigrade and deep freezers of at least minus 18 degrees centigrade.
Meteorologists announced temperatures are expected to continue reaching 37 degrees centigrade over the next few days with only little chance of some clouds and thunderstorms in the Alps.
