From September refurbishment work will start on the façade of Vienna’s city hall which is expected to last twelve years and cost around 35.7 million Euros.
This will be the first ever complete renovation and clean of the historic façade-
Michael Ludwig from, the SPÖ confirmed that many specialists would be involved in the work and this would ensure that the utmost care is taken to the building.
The building was built 130 years ago using more than 40,000 square metres of different types of natural stones from ‘former ‘crown lands’ as well as France, Italy and Germany.
Weather, industry and fire have taken their toll on the colour of the once light coloured building meaning it is much darker.
Up until 2024 parts of the historic city hall will be covered in scaffolding both inside and out.
