Miss Earth campaign starts in Austria

Entries are now being accepted from girls who want to take part in the Miss Earth Austria contest. The winner is awarded with a ticket to the final in South America.

The current Miss Earth from 2011, Lisa Hanakamp, 21, was recently at the greenEXPO 12 in Vienna, pictured here with Sina Schmid, to promote the event and the cause.

Miss Earth is considered as one of the three biggest "miss" competitions in the world and invites women to not only look good but also show their passion and intelligence.

The winner should use the position to encourage attention on a number of environmental issues.

Several European countries are already involved, including Switzerland, Germany, Italy, England, Spain and France.

Last year was the first time that the event took place in Austria, and the winner, Lisa Hanakamp, then represented Austria at the final in Manila in the Philippines together with over 100 other contestants.

The final winner was Olga Mercedes Alava Vargas from Ecuador, who was then automatically voted as spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the environmental programme of the United Nations.

The final of the Austrian part of the contest will take place in autumn, in Vienna. The winner will then be found equitable for the overall final.

Anyone interested can get further information from the organisation's website www.miss-earth.at.
