Austrian national air carrier Austrian Airlines (AUA) is planning to invest in quality in a bid to win back passengers.
As part of the plan six Boeing 767 and four 777 Austrian Airlines long-distance planes will be remodelled by April 2013.
The work on each plane takes around 6 weeks for one plane with a total cost of the project being around 80 million.
It will mean that the business class will be equipped with beds, leather laptop cases, newly designed lamps and concealable armrests. For the economy class a video-on-demand-system will be installed.
And economy passengers from Vienna will again be able to order warm food on-board. However, the food is not included in the plane ticket but costs 15 Euro and has to be ordered ahead of the flight.
Economy passengers not willing to pay the additional 15 Euros can still get cold food like sandwiches for free.
Local media said Austrian Airlines seemed set to improve their image since the downgrading of the World Airline Awards 2012, where AUA lost its top rating. Last year AUA was leading in the categories "Best Business Class On-board Catering" and "Service Excellence – Europe" but is only on 2nd place after the Swiss this year.
Furthermore, AUA lost its reputation in the eyes of the passengers with numerous complaints about the service.
