Increase of tourism in Linz
Tourism bosses in Linz have reason to celebrate after the latest figures show overnight stays in the Upper Austrian capital are on the rise.
The first half of the year saw an increase in overnight visitors of eight per cent.
And it’s not just business guests the city wants to attract, but cultural tourists.
Vice mayor, Erich Watzl (ÖVP), believes Linz could attract more people from both industry and tourism.
The city proved popular with visitors from Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia as well as fellow Austrians.
There was an 11 per cent increase on the previous year of guests from Austria, 70 per cent more Hungarian, 25 per cent more Slovaks and 14 per cent more Slovenes. The number of Swiss tourists also grew by eight per cent.
Visitors from neighbouring Czech Republic were on the decrease however with 4.2 per cent fewer guests.
Georg Steiner, Linz tourism boss, believes one way in which the city could attract more visitors from neighbouring countries is to improve communication, starting with multi-lingual menus in restaurants.
Among Austrian tourists, those from Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland particularly contributed to the increase of tourism in Linz.
